Hire a website designer, not a whole agency
There is one person on this project. He designs it, writes the code, handles the search side, and picks up the phone when you call. No account manager. No handoff. No wondering who dropped the ball.

The difference nobody explains
A designer builds it. An agency manages building it.
When you hire a Denver agency, a meaningful slice of what you pay covers the machinery of running an agency: the office, the account manager, the project manager, the sales commission, the strategist who writes the deck. Some of that is genuinely valuable on a large project with a dozen stakeholders.
On a website for a Denver business with five services and a service area, most of it is overhead you are funding but not using. You end up paying for four people to coordinate about work that one person could have finished.
The person who understands your business best should be the person writing the code. Every layer between those two things is a place where meaning gets lost.
Why we work this wayOne head holds the whole thing
The reason your service page reads wrong is usually that a copywriter heard it from a strategist who heard it from a salesperson who heard it from you. Cutting that chain fixes more than it sounds like it would.
Changes happen the same day
A small edit at an agency becomes a ticket, an estimate and a scheduling conversation. Here it's a text message and then it's done.
You know who is doing the work
Not a stock photo of a team. Not "our developers." A named person in Denver whose phone number is on every page of this website.
Do this before you hire anybody
Test your current website. It takes thirty seconds.
Google publishes a free tool called PageSpeed Insights. Paste in any web address and it scores the page out of 100 in four categories. It's the same tool Google uses, it's free, and it doesn't care who built the site.
This is the single most useful thing you can do before spending money on a website designer. Run it on your current site. Then run it on the website of whoever is pitching you.
Illustration of the four categories and the scoring bands. Your own numbers will be whatever they are — that's the point of running it.
What the numbers usually mean
If Performance comes back under 50 on mobile, the site is almost certainly a heavy theme with a stack of plugins, oversized images, or both. That's the most common condition of small business websites in Denver, and it's fixable.
If SEO comes back low, the page is missing basic structure — titles, descriptions, headings, a way for crawlers to understand it. That one is usually cheap to fix and worth doing immediately.
If Best Practices is low, there's often an actual security or standards problem sitting there, quietly.
Send us your score
Run the test, then call and read us the numbers. We'll tell you what's causing them and whether it's worth fixing or rebuilding. That conversation costs nothing and you're free to take the answer to somebody else.
Side by side
Website designer, agency, or build it yourself
Three genuinely different products. The right answer depends on your business, not on which one somebody is selling you today.
| DIY builder | Website designer | Full agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical Denver cost | $0–$30/month | From $99/month | $9,000–$22,000+ |
| Who does the work | You do | One person, start to finish | A team, coordinated by a manager |
| Who you talk to | Support chat | The person building it | An account manager |
| Time to launch | A weekend of your life | 24 hours to about a week | Six weeks to three months |
| Custom design | Template only | Yes | Yes |
| Built for search | Limited by the platform | Yes | Usually, often billed separately |
| Small change turnaround | You do it now | Usually same day | Ticket, estimate, schedule |
| Handles big multi-team projects | No | No — that's genuinely their job | Yes |
| Best fit | Brand new, almost no budget | Local business that needs the phone to ring | Mid-market with a marketing department |
If you have twelve stakeholders and a brand committee, hire the agency — that coordination is a real skill and we don't do it. If you're a Denver business owner who needs a site that gets found and gets calls, the middle column is built for you. See our pricing or compare Denver companies.
What actually happens
From your first call to your site being live
The thing that stalls most website projects is not design. It's the business owner being asked to write content they have no time to write. We plan around that from the start.
A fifteen minute phone call
What your business does, who your customers are, where you work, and what you want the website to accomplish. No slide deck, no discovery workshop, no questionnaire to fill in on a Sunday. Fifteen minutes on the phone gets us most of what we need.
You get a real page, not a wireframe
We write the content from that call plus whatever you already have — an old site, a brochure, a Facebook page. You look at an actual working website on your actual phone. Grey boxes and lorem ipsum tell you nothing about whether a site will work.
You mark it up and we change it
Wrong service listed. Wrong photo. Tone too formal. Missing the thing you're actually known for. Tell us in plain language — text, email, or just call and talk it through. We change it and you look again. Repeat until it's right.
Live, indexed and submitted
The site goes live on your domain. We submit it to Google Search Console so it starts getting crawled instead of waiting to be discovered. Structured data, sitemap and crawler access are already in place because they were built in, not added afterwards.
We keep running it
Hosting, updates, security, edits when your business changes, and the search side as the site matures. New service, new phone number, new photos, a page for a suburb you've started working in — send it over and it gets done. One number to call.
Who you're hiring
I'm Zach. I've been doing this in Denver since 2012.
I grew up in Boulder and I've spent my working life in the Denver metro. I started Eye To Ad Media in 2012, and denver-webdesign.com is our web design side.
Here's the part that's unusual. I own and rank a portfolio of several hundred websites across a lot of different industries — my own properties, my own money, my own mistakes. That's not a certification I can frame. It does mean I learned what makes a page get found by doing it a few hundred times rather than by reading somebody's blog about it.
I also run a bath remodeling company. So when a contractor tells me their booking system takes appointments that ignore drive time, or that their website gets traffic but the phone doesn't ring, I'm not sympathizing from a distance. I've had that exact month.
Eye To Ad Media has 60 reviews. More about how we work.
Around the metro
Website design across Denver and the Front Range
Most of our clients are within an hour of downtown. Local matters here for a specific reason: when somebody searches for a service in Arvada, Google weighs signals that are different from a search in Centennial, and knowing that changes how a site gets built.
Working outside Colorado is fine too — the build is identical. Local knowledge simply matters more when your customers are searching with local intent. The search side is handled by Eye To Ad Media, including industry-specific Denver SEO.
What you get
Every site includes this, on every plan
Mobile first, genuinely
Designed on a phone screen before a desktop one, because that's where local searches happen. Not a desktop layout squeezed down until it fits.
Structured data
Machine-readable facts about your business — what you do, where, your phone number, your hours. This is how search engines and AI assistants stop guessing.
Written to be found
Real answers to real questions, in the words your customers actually use. Not keyword padding, and not five hundred words of throat-clearing before the point.
Hosting and updates
Kept online, kept current, kept secure. Send us a change and it usually happens the same day. No separate maintenance invoice.
Search Console setup
Your site gets submitted to Google properly with a sitemap, so it starts getting crawled rather than waiting around to be found.
Room to grow
Booking, calculators, stores and portals when the business needs them. Denver web development handles the parts a template can't.

Questions about hiring a website designer in Denver
How much does a website designer cost in Denver CO?
Our custom-coded sites start at $99 per month, and drag-and-drop builder plans start at $5.99 per month. For comparison, Denver agencies commonly quote $9,000 to $22,000 for a professional five-page website, and published guides across the wider market put most professional builds between $3,000 and $15,000. Rates rise with size, complexity and how much optimization is included.
What is the difference between a website designer and a web design company?
Mostly headcount and overhead. A company has a team and a process, with a manager coordinating specialists. A designer does the work directly. The company model earns its cost on large projects with many stakeholders. For a local business with a handful of services, you're usually paying for coordination that the project doesn't need.
Do I need a designer near me, or does remote work fine?
The build works identically either way. Local matters when your customers search with local intent — knowing which Denver suburbs actually matter for your service, what the competition already ranks for, how people here phrase things. If you sell nationally, paying a local premium buys you very little.
How long does it take to design a website?
Some single-page sites go live within 24 hours. A typical multi-page business site takes seven days or more. Ecommerce runs two to four weeks. Apps take 30 to 60 days and up. The thing that moves the timeline most is how fast decisions get made on your side, not how fast the code gets written.
What do you need from me before we start?
Fifteen minutes on the phone, and whatever you already have — logo, photos, an old website, a brochure. If you don't have written content we'll write it from the call and you correct it. Waiting for the business owner to produce copy is what kills most website projects, so we don't put that on you.
Will my website work on phones?
Every site is designed for phones first. Most local searches happen on a phone, often on a patchy connection. If the page is slow to load or hard to tap, none of the rest of the work matters. You can check any site yourself with Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool.
Can you redesign my existing website instead of starting over?
Often that's the better move. If the site already ranks for anything, throwing it out means throwing that away too. We'd rather keep what works and fix what doesn't. If it's built on something unmaintainable or fundamentally slow, a rebuild usually costs less over two years than endless patching.
Do I own my website and domain?
Your domain name is registered to you and stays yours. Your content, photos and logo are yours. On a monthly plan the site itself is leased with a buyout option at 24 to 36 months, priced on the site's valuation at that point. All of that is spelled out before you sign anything.
What if I want to leave?
Call and ask before you sign, and get the answer in writing — from us or from anybody else you're considering. It's the single most important question people forget to ask, and any designer who gets vague about it is telling you something useful.
Do you do the SEO too, or just the design?
The structural side is part of every build — headings, schema, speed, crawler access, content written to answer real questions. Ongoing campaign work like link building, Google Business Profile management and content programs is handled through Eye To Ad Media, which is the same people.
